I have a farm in Africa…(but my heart is in Italy!)

It has been a dream of mine for many years to own an ancient house in Italy. In 2007 I decided that it was time to take action if I ever wanted to make my dream come true, and started searching on the internet. I came across an old mill for sale and enquired about it…. Prompt reply: ”SOLD”. Then “The house of the English Teacher” caught my eye, but again the reply was: "SOLD”.

Sarah Child, from Each Property Med then invited me to describe the type of property I would be interested in. Having restored old property previously, I regarded an unrestored property as a challenge. To my surprise, I learnt that for the price of a very mediocre house in South Africa, I could obtain my dream property and have it restored and furnished (included in the selling price!)

Sarah responded immediately by sending me a cd with loads of photos describing the areas, properties, and buying process in the finest detail. I also e-mailed her on a regular basis with many enquiries (frequent frequently asked questions)  which she patiently replied to in her friendly way of dealing with ignorant buyers such as myself.  As there is a 2 hour time difference between our countries, she also had to take my phone calls at the most ungodly hours. Sarah seems to enjoy her work to such an extent that she hardly ever takes break!

Our business relationship has since developed into a less formal and business-like one, and now, whenever I need to contact her regarding my purchase, it seems that I am dealing with an old friend.

I have since had many difficulties in transferring money, etc in my home country in my attempts to finalise the sale. Sarah can always be relied on for prompt and most valuable guidance, advice and encouragement.

It must also be taken into account that I bought my property “blindfolded”! In other words, I have, to this day not slapped eyes on my property. I have decided to wait until the property is fully restored and furnished.  That day will be the first time that I see my property.

Sarah’s services have been invaluable as I could trust her guidance at all times. How else would I have been able to take the risk of making an investment and taking such a big step of purchasing an unseen property? It is refreshing to know that, in our hard core business world there are still individuals in whom one can place your trust.

This whole foreign investment saga has been a very enriching and rewarding experience!

Buying a home abroad is a big step and it really helped to have a local agent in Scotland, who was always on hand to answer any questions.
